Someone on facebook has just invited me to a race called the "Scenic Seven". Has anyone ever heard of it? Don't think it's been mentioned here before.

Mmm, didn't I pass you Dom on that endlessly steep, painfull, 2 mile, gut-wrenching, uphill slog at the start of last year's race? I'm sure it was you, you were smiling  Grin

Yes you did, you did a great time, something like 48 minutes ? John Diffey did also.

Is the race 7 miles? Or does it refer to 7 scenic items? Just how scenic is the scenic 7?

7 Miles, 1500 feet of climb, all tarmac, Mike measured it and "very".

Map attached from their site, the race goes clockwise, the perspective is a bit misleading.

Here's my Garmin profile on Motionbased from last July  http://tinyurl.com/scenic7-2009

Of course Ron being Ron had to say that "The real man's version was the old Police 10 miler that started and ended down in the village", inspired by this I did my 17 miler version that I'm doing again on Sunday http://tiny.pl/bj8j

Plus just for fun, the Police 10 mile route http://tinyurl.com/scenic10

Historically the lunchtime runners from work have a practice evening on the course in May and June.

Ed, the Scenic 7 is no more scenic than any other race, unless you want to stop an have picnic to admire the views from the summit! Otherwise, the only scenery you will be admiring is pine trees and tarmac, most of the female runners will be behind you given your pace these days  Grin

I always liken it to the Spa motor racing circuit, the drivers love that and they can't be spending too much time gazing at the view.
